well, I know that we have all heard the debate about this, and I've held
back my thoughts on this issue until I could see it for myself.  Well, I've
seen it for myself, and I'm not happy (but who is surprised)

And I want to Rant.

Firstly let me say that these colours are so bad in their own right, I know
that I and many other space builders could used them to great effect in
space, I'm sure castle and town builders would appreciate the variations
they can allow.  but as a replacement...

Dark Gray
The new DkGray  has been described as being "bluish"  I would have to
disagree with this.  It is a bit bluer but I suspect that this is because
it is a significantly lighter shade  Maybe a bit over half way between the
old LtGrey and DkGrey.  I found it extremely easy to see the difference
between this Grey and the old DkGrey from the picture on the box (set 7044)
and I was wearing sunglasses at the time.

Light Grey
The new LtGrey, like the new DkGrey  is lighter that the older grey.  The
difference is a bit harder to pick up without a comparison to the old
LtGrey but once you do compare the difference is obvious.  This grey seems
about halfway between white and the old LtGrey.

So to me it seemed that the major difference between the new greys and the
old greys is that they are significantly lighter.  There are many reasons
that Lego may have changed the greys, Market research, production costs,
etc...  but these do not seem like good reasons to chance a colour in a
product such as Lego.  One reason that was suggested to me by Ross Crawford
that could be a legitimate and uncontrollable reason is that Lego lost
their source of Dyes.  But given the nature of the colour change to my eyes
if this did happen I would have though the there would have been more
effort put in to match the greys.  because the new greys seem to be just
"lighter" it appears, to me anyway, that a change in dye source, whilst
necessitating a change in colour would not have required a change this
great.  I suspect that economic factors might be at play, and if this is
the sole reason, I would be extremely disappointed with the companies conduct.

What I want most of all from Lego is to revert back to the old Greys, but
that may not be possible.  What I really want at the moment is a
reason.  Why were these colours changed.

Anyway, there is my rant, make of it what you will
