Apparently not: I've seen posts which indicate the old shades of grey and brown are now obsolete and you'll need to replace all the old coloured pieces in your collection with new coloured pieces. When I sorted through my booty from Legoland Pick-a-Brick, I found that my collection of 1x1 light grey plates contained a small number that were definitely a different colour to the others.
