Thanks Ross,
I work in the construction industry and i know all about reinforced concrete
design (i did do a module on that topic for my course). Alas i wanted to do
something that i could build with the resourses that i had and could easliy
obtain. the result was this structure. Steel frame construction is a popular
option in the USA espesially NYC where i've heard that the concrete barens
charge to much to make concrete viable as a construction material. Although
used for the floors it is not used in great quanities. Most of the fire
rated stair wells and lift shafts can be rated using masonry (concrete
block) or plasterboard (gyprock) systems or a combination of both. I'm sure
we could go on for a while. Also i thought this type of construction is
visually easier to understand. This is the early stage i will be adding
sections such as concrete floors at a latter stage.
Anyway i quite liked your crane. I have taken some pics of my creation. One
may notice the short legs, but this will be addressed for the display, for
witch it will stand above the tower. And to ensure that the crane will not
swing /sway/twist it will be tied back to the tower at periodic points.
now on with the pics

(URL) as a point of interest, most high rise buildings are constructed with a solid concrete core, containing the liftwells and usually service rooms like toilets etc, with the beam construction only used for the rest of the floor area.
