IIRC crossbows were used because they were A LOT more accurate than longbows. (25 years ago, 13-Sep-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.org.au, lugnet.pirates)

hmmmmm well I was in the city on sunday... I bought the fright knights castle thing and some other stuff like Rock Raiders... They still had a few castles left when I was there... maybe a few left? G'day... Guess what, they are VERY old stock..these sets were part of the 1997 promo [see sets 2535-2544 [this set would be 2538, I think]] What has probably happened is that shell have moved stock from a smaller servo to there. NOTE: apparently (...) (25 years ago, 12-Sep-00, to lugnet.loc.au)

But in Australia, DACTA is run through LA...In fact at one stage you could order DACTA [or at least get info] from LA only.
