Starting March 1st (through March 23, I believe), models from Miniland New
England will be auctioned on eBay to raise money for a children's charity. New
auction items will be added during the three weeks.

This is a great idea, and a good chance for collectors to get some very unique
models, including some pictured in The Ultimate LEGO Book.

This is a change, yes and no.  Several years ago I bought a glue together castle
on ebay.  I got an email from a lawyer at Lego saying they wanted the model back
to destroy it.  Of course I said no way.  The lawyer then proceeded to tell me
that if I was a real Lego fan I would return something that was Legos properity
or they would sue.  I called customer service and went up their chain of command
and was finally told to forget the whole thing.  I guess they looked at my
account and saw how much I bought.  That was the last time I was aware that
anyone was hassled about such a thing.
Then on the other hand I bought a glued together model of the White House that
was in their headquarters in Denmark at the enterance for many years.  They Lego
donated it to a charity that auctioned it off and a service man bought it and
brought it back to the states. It was larger than a fair sized desk.  I bought
it on ebay and never heard a word from Lego against my buying it.  They were
even helpful in giving me the history of the piece.  I believe that Legos heart
is in the right place.  I understand that they may not want the displays from
TRU or Target to be sold as that might interfer with sales and then their
employees might be tempted to "take" the models rather than returning them to
Lego.  I have bought several of these with no word from Lego.  I think that
their ebay lurking days are over.
