As my wife and son are having a trip to Taiwan and I am home alone, I
did one thing quite impulsively last Saturday: I flew down to Carlsbad and
back, just to get my Brick-or-Treat brick!

I took pictures. I uploaded some of them at BrickShelf:
<http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=1641>

Most of these pictures were taken from the Miniland, as that was the
place I spent most of the day.

When I was there busy taking pictures, suddenly I had a strange feeling:
These are the ghosts of Timmy. After he has been killed in so many ways
on the Internet, now his ghosts are coming back haunting us at the
Miniland.

I wish I could fly to Carlsbad...

But thanks for taking some pictures of the park and all the festivities.  That
poor skeleton committing suicide off that building...  He had so much to live
for.  By the way, has anyone figured out why Lego would build to this scale?
I mean if they built the miniland area to minifigure scale then wouldn't they
sell more sets?  And I don't really think their style is that popular with
Lugneters since I don't think I have ever seen anything with those types of
people in them.  So what's Lego doing?  Now I must go and make sure all of my
skeletons are living happy lives...

They don't build to minifig scale because minifig scale is so out-of-whack
with normal human dimensions.  The custom figs they build are likely about as
small as they can make them with standard lego pieces.  Besides, from a
distance of however many feet, a minifig scale sculpture would be very hard to
see.  By making them 2x3 times larger, they are more impressive and can be
seen from a farther distance.

(...) Adrian's post is an adequate description of why we build to 'Miniland scale.' Miniland is all about detail. Ashley Glennon Manager of Sales, Promotions and Sponsorships LEGOLAND California (24 years ago, 20-Oct-00, to lugnet.legoland.california)
