Hi guys,
Would it be possible for someone to check into the 4400 tub situation and let
us know what the scoop is?
The tubs appeared briefly in Canada, possibly in connection to a anniversary
sale at Walmart, and not in any great quantity - as far as I can determine, no
store got more than a single pallet of tubs. They were priced at $15 CAD, and
disappeared fast.
Sometime last week (not certain exactly when), they became available to North
America via Shop at Home, both over the phone and online, for $9.99 USD.
Combined with the current free shipping offer, 7000+ elements for under $100 was
irresistable to us AFOLs, and once word spread, the stock evaporated. Shortly
after that, people calling by phone were told that they could backorder a
maximum of 4, although there was no limit indicated online. Shortly after that,
the product was unorderable online, and then was pulled from the website
entirely.
The things Id like to know (but fully recognize that I have no real right to
most of the answers) are:
- Why were so few of these put out?
- Will we see them again?
- At the same price point?
- What is the deal with that price point? 70% of the last tub at 50% of the price? That is a fantastic price for retail; certainly the lowest price/piece ratio Ive seen for a long time (excluding sale items).
- Will you be honoring the backorders placed before you pulled the product?
- What was this tub? A Walmart Canada special deal that somehow ended up at S@H? A loss leader item to get basic bricks out there? A X-mas special accidently released early? An elaborate hoax pulled off by clone-brand terrorists?
- Who decided the element mix? Kudos to them, its fantastic.
- Will (if it becomes available again) it show up in other regional markets?
thanks,
James

| (...) I have another question/comment - TLC keep telling us AFOLs we are a trivially small minority market. So how come there aren't enough 4400 to supply a few hundred of us who only want 10 - 25 buckets each. Heck, that's only a few thousand. (...) (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.lego.direct, FTX)

| (...) And as a further note to the saga, they showed up at Superstore (a Canadian-only 'mega-grocery' chain) in their toy section for $15.98 over the weekend. thanks, James (21 years ago, 4-Nov-03, to lugnet.lego.direct, FTX)
