I've made a point of avoiding video games for years now. It's weird because
I love them. I know this is gonna seem REALLY Old Skool, but, I loved my
Nintendo! I had all the Space Ship - Multiple Gun games. Then I realized,
the more I played Video Games, the less I would build. So I gave all my
games to my younger sisters. Those were the pre-Mantis days.
Now, I miss them. We brought a 61 inch. giant projection TV and I'm getting
the hankering to buy a new game box of some sort. With all the cool graphic
of today, I'm sure I'll find some inspiration thru the multitude of Mecha
games available now.
I gotta check out this game you mention. I gotta check out lot's of stuff.
To answer your question, it should be interesting to see what licence TLC
would buy and then produce. Fact is to quote another Mecha Builder:
"I don't care what set TLC comes out with, I'll buy the sets anyway and
still build cool stuff, no matter what..."(BM)
I kinda have the same feeling, Let em make it! it's more fodder for my Mecha!
One thing that you should know:
When I was at Bricks West 2002, the Honorable Brad Justus (of Lego Direct)
Mentioned (after being asked) ...That he would love to see either a Mecha
MOC or Mecha in general made as a set. However, due to the Violence issue
and the weapons traditionally carried by most Mecha, it's something TLC
can't get into.
I shouted (like a dumb-@$$) "We don't want the TLC to make Mecha! We like it
to be a purely fan created Genre!
Oh Man why did I say that!
Later, Mecha Master Sun Yun, gave me his opinion:
"I think it would be cool, because that would mean more parts for us to use"
(or something to that effect)Good Point!
So I appologize to Brad and Sun for blurting out that comment!
I did say that I make non-violent Mecha and although they may look spooky,
they are natural in their adaptaions, sort of like a Porcupine, you wouldn't
want to pick one up, but rather respect it's spikes and spines and stay away.
(or somthing to that effect.)(boy I can't remember anything!)
Ok so my point, TLC may not produce Mecha in the forseable future due to the
violence issue, I hope they do make my Little Bots into a set!!!!!
Also, I gotta say, one of the Life on Mars Mecha has a giant gun on it's
shoulder, so what's the difference?
I hope wisdom prevails, Robots, Mecha, what have you, they are all a glimpse
of the future and foward thinking is key to promoting evolement of our minds.
Robots are here to stay and will only become more ingrained in our lives.
Movies, real life companies and Universities are great purveyors of the
evolution of Robots.
TLC should keep pace. Make a Mecha Line and find a place between
funtionality and Violence. Sure their is Mindstorms and Spybotics, but they
don't look like movie or video game Mecha. Perhaps it would be smart to
start introducing the theme before TLC falls sorely behind in terms of
what's popular with folks that like that kind of thing.
Like I and others have said, more parts and more forward thinking.
I think that if the higher end of Robotics like Mindstorms and Sybotics were
to have something to emulate like a smaller model of a Bipedal Robot, soon
folks would end up using their mindstorms in the Bipedal form and have
something to model after. Sort of a lesser complex younger cousin that could
be built upon, an idea that could grow and provide a basis to start on.
(ok that wasn't very clear)
All in all, we just hope it looks cool and does the original idea or model
justice, or that it just contains cool pieces and does't look corny.
Then again, we'll buy it anyway.
Thoughts?

Thank you.
Frankly I'm jealous of the support the Train Folks get. Good for them, it's
a good thing.

| I would definitely like to see Lego acquire a license and started producing mecha themed sets(if they can't do something cool on their own - highly likely). To some extent I believe in the minds of TLC, they already are through Bionicle and some of (...) (22 years ago, 11-Aug-02, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.lego.direct)
