I missed Dan's offerings.  Larry, I have seen your hopper cars.  Does
anyone have a comprehensive list of sets being sold by individuals?  I
would guess it's short and sporadic.

That reminds me...  Brad J. mentioned a few months ago that one thing LD is
potentially considering as a website function for LSAH is allowing people to
design and upload MOC's and let other people buy copies of them.

Really?  When and how did Brad say this?

Can you, or Brad, elaborate on this? It begs a lot of questions:

I agree. I'd definitely like to see all of Larry's questions answered.

Also, where is the FAQ for LEGO Direct?  Brad thought it would be a
good idea.

It sure could answer a lot of routine common questions. It could also
clear up some of the confusion, and misinformation we occasionally
see.

- Any restrictions on parts? If restricted to the current bulk parts
assortment all you can build are various different modern buildings with trees
around them. If allowed to select ANYTHING, the logistics boggle the mind.
Somewhere in the middle seems right, but there will be an interesting
management problem to get it to work correctly.

It would be nice if Brad or LEGO Direct would address the questions
surrounding production capabilities for bulk and custom orders.

I've already stated my thoughts in a previous message.  Still no reply
from the LEGO Company or its representatives.

TLC keeps harping on their desire for good communications between the
company (LEGO Direct) and the consumer market (us).

They could start by assigning someone the responsibility of answering
all our questions.

Any questions that can be answered, should be.  Those answers should
get added to the FAQ.

If they don't have answers or are unwilling to unveil future plans
until an appropriate time, that's fine.

I would just like to see someone say things like this:

`I'm sorry, the LEGO Company is unable to address this question at
this time.'

`I'm sorry, the LEGO Company can not reveal future marketing plans.'

`I read your message, it had some good ideas, I'll forward it to the
appropriate people within the LEGO Company.'

As an active member of the LEGO community here on LUGNET, I do want to
contribute to the improvement of TLC, the sets it produces, the parts
available to us through bulk purchasing, etc...

In return I'm willing to give the LEGO Company as much information as
they want about my buying habits, desires, and needs.  I would think
this information from enough individuals would be invaluable. In fact,
I know it would.

In return, all I ask for, is better communication between the LEGO
Company and the consumers of its products.

This hasn't happened yet.

LUGNET represents the best adult focus group the LEGO Company has.
Please start making real use of it.

Also, Todd's questions about LEGO Direct's possible goals to compete
with LUGNET in building a online LEGO community have not been
addressed.  Why not?

Personally, I don't have time to visit multiple sites that provide
similar services.  I find the best, and use it.  But doing so does
mean that I miss any communications or features found on the sites I
don't visit regularly.

It would be far more preferable if LUGNET and LEGO Direct could work
closely together.

What I most want to avoid, is wasted effort on duplication of services
when one isn't any better than the other.  Particularly the message
areas.

Both could maintain separate sites, clearly identified, but share
certain data, databases, share many links between the two, etc.
A good example is the way LUGNET's set database has links to
instructions on Brickshelf.  This is excellent cooperation.

It would have to be clear to the users that each page or message,  is
the official LEGO position, the position of LUGNET, or a contribution
from a LEGO fan.

It has some drawbacks and legal issues I'm sure, but I think an
integrated solution has many positive aspects that outweigh the
negative.

It has often been said that the LEGO Company and the LEGO Community
would be much improved if we shared the same LEGO parts database and
set database.

If we users could access a complete parts database controlled by the
LEGO Company, there would be a lot less confusion on part description,
part name and color. LEGO Consumers could use the online database to
order missing set parts, saving TLC plenty of money here. Describing
parts over the telephone to TLC customer service is extremely
difficult.

With the advent of custom models and massive bulk purchasing, a common
parts database used by both the LEGO Company and its consumers would
clear up all the confusion and doubt as to what you're ordering and
what you're getting.

I'm sure a online parts reference would also be extremely helpful to
anyone within LEGO who does set or parts design, marketing, etc.

A set database containing all the correct information, release date,
MSRP, parts count, etc. is helpful for similar reasons.

So when is the LEGO Company going to do it?

It would be nice to see Brad say:

`I read your message, it had some good ideas, I'll forward it
to the appropriate people within the LEGO Company.'

Thanks.  :-)
