Good luck!!! As far a worm gears, the best source is probably from Pitsco
Dacta. They have a "worm gear accessory pack"....

I guess they want people to buy the more expensive set....
I guess it is the same way with the technic 9V motors. They had sold
them by themselves (around 10 to 14 US), also had them with the battery
controller, for 30. Guess which one they discontinued....
Chalk another one for their lack of concern for consumers....
and they wonder why so many people are aggravated by the way they do business.
