     (...) In 1986? No way. The tabs were around before 1983 (or started that year), as I had never seen the tabless torsos until I picked up a used copy of 6390 Main Street.    (...) Hmm. I recall that the old Classic Space minifigs didn't have the tabs, and I believe they were still around in '84. Perhaps that theme got the newer minifigs later for some reason?    (...) Separate the torso from the legs of a minfig, and look into the underside of the torso piece. The tabs are bits of plastic that stick out from the sides and match up with the studs on the legs. Originally, minifigs had no tabs, then smaller (...)
