The tabs were definately there as far back as 84, all the lion and black
falcon torsos had tabs

| (...) Hmm. I recall that the old Classic Space minifigs didn't have the tabs, and I believe they were still around in '84. Perhaps that theme got the newer minifigs later for some reason? In those days I scoffed at any Lego sets that weren't (...) (23 years ago, 14-Jun-01, to lugnet.lego.direct)
