Hello All,
I hope that this is posted in the correct place, I couldn't really think of
another place to place it. I just returned from my trip to Florida, where I
visited Walt Disney World and the Lego Imagination Center in the Downtown
Disney Market Place. I spent a good amount of money at the store, and I
thought that the selection of products inside the store was great. I liked
the Shop At Home exclusives that were for sale. My problems are with the
exterior of the store.
I was at the store soon after it first opened and I have visited it about
once a year since. The problem is that the displays are showing there age. I
mean they are really showing there age. Some of the bricks in the sculptures
(the flying saucer, for example) were badly sun damaged, some of the red
bricks were bleached completely white. All of the sculptures showed signs of
excessive handling (which cannot be helped really, but there should be some
attempt to replace missing pieces!) Several people commented on the general
poor look of the store exterior (I was taking pictures of my Minifig David
at the store, which always gets people asking. When they found out that I
had a Lego themed fan site they started to offer comments), especially when
compared to World of Disney that is right next store, and always looking
clean and new.
In the building area there are several building tables for people to play
with the sets all with theme signs (City, Western, Etc) but only basic
bricks with which to play. There is a posted "game" to play, build a racecar
and then race it with other people on a provided ramp but no wheels to use!
When I talked to the employees at the store they just commented on the
expense of the bricks in the play area and of the sculptures and then said
it was up to "Corporate" to have the fixed.
For the sake of the Lego community, please fix some of these problems. Even
if it means removing one sculpture for a period of time for repairs, that's
better than letting them rot in public view.

Many Thanks,
David Lairson

Dear David, I'm sorry that you found your visit to the Orlando LEGO Imagination Center to be less than fabulous. We realize that our Orlando store is starting to show some wear and you'll be happy to know that we have scheduled a remodel for this (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.lego)
