Sounds like a quality control problem here. I also bought a 6979 with a
failed micromotor, only I got mine almost a year ago. You did'nt happen to
get it from the Entertainer in Camberley did you?
Anyway, I have planned on getting this motor, and various other
broken/defective parts replaced by sending the damaged parts to TLG along
with an order for some spare parts I would like to buy. Now I am thinking of
splitting it, requesting replacement parts in one order, and ordering
service packs later - and from another address!

*growl*

I just built my 6979 Interstellar Starfighter (the big UFO set) and
discovered the little red micro-motor wasn't working. I guessed it must
have just got accidently bashed about in the box or something
(though I'm a bit surprised - doesn't say that much for its quality - all
I've done is built the set once - apart from that it's lived in its box
for the past 8 months...)
and promptly rang Lego to try to get a new one. They quickly
identified the part and took an order for it. £10 (or US$16).
Of course, like an idiot I just gave them my credit card number,
put the phone down, then thought, 'Ten Quid for a tiny little
motor like that?????' Perhaps I should have checked if anyone
on lugnet had one for sale but it's too late now.

So, Lego Group UK, if anyone in your staff is reading - you may have
gained the equivalent of 16 dollars off me for ONE Lego brick. But
you've lost probably a lot more than that in terms of my goodwill. I
don't expect to be using your spares service again
for a long time to come...
