I'm sure that if someone like TRU or KB requested to be able to sell bulk
bricks that Lego would work something out to accommodate them.

My take on retailers....

#1 & 2 are probably WalMart and K-Mart (tied). K-Mart had some
management problems a few years back, but they are cleaning up their act
fast. In Florida, I believe the numbers are ~170 K-Mart stores and ~150
WalMart Stores.

#3 is probably TRU (about 40-50 stores in Florida)

close behind might be #4 Kay Bee Toys & #5 Target

The Blue Tub theory

I think of it like this... say each WalMart & K-Mart moves 20 blue tubs
a year (I'm being conservative), for this state alone, that would be
~6000-7000 blue tubs. Assuming wholesale is 60% (mentioned elsewhere),
then those tubs are worth $70K-$85K / year for TLG. Add in the other
retailers and you might be closer to $125K. Thats for one state. Some
states are larger and some smaller. So blue tubs might account for
$4M-$5M / year to TLG-US (conservative guess).

For AFOLs to make an impact, I believe that we have to approach TLG
with something close to $250K orders to get any respect. Right now, TLG
sells blue tubs & purple buckets (which may or may not be a current
product). Asking TLG to spin up another bulk tub for a fraction of the
blue tub gross would not go over in Enfield.

But look at how TLG makes those blue tubs. At least one poster on
lugnet talked about working at Enfield several years back. He talked
about moving all those boxes of bulk parts around. Then I remember the
picture of Ed Boxer standing in front of all those boxes of Brown
Bricks. All we need is a buying organization (BO) that will buy 'boxes'
of bricks (or whatever part). Then the BO would have the responsibility
of breaking up a box for individuals. This has to be geared to the
internal working of Enfield. If there is any way that TLG can do this
without adding a SKU, that would be the way to go. To the best of my
knowledge, TLG does no direct retail sales. All sales are handled thru
other subsidiaries (such as S@H). Can S@H be the connect point between
TLG and the BO ?

Time for a poll:

o What would you pay per piece for bricks (2x4) in any standard Lego
color which is not readily available elsewhere ?

$.04

o What are train windows worth if you could order then by the 100s ?

$1.00 (with glass)

o What other parts would we want via bulk ?

4864 in clear and blue-tint ( http://home.att.net/~partsref/images/4864.gif )

o What minimum ($s) would an individual be willing to order at one time ?

$500+
