The #6982 has a box identical in size to the #7171 Mos Espa Podrace and #6979 Interstellar Starfighter (with a (...) (25 years ago, 20-Oct-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.space)

I would tend to define "largest set" strictly by part count, since TLG has cheated so many times by alluding to volume with a well-photographed but intrinsically wireframe structure (Space Lock-Up Isolation Base, hello).
