My first reaction:  Huh?  LEGO's been making watches for a couple of years,
at least.  It doesn't sound like these are really new, except for colors
and face design.

Thanks for posting this, Chet.  Sounds like LEGO watches are here to stay.

Does this mean the next train station will have a working wall clock?

here goes:

LEGO Watch Systems Range Launches; It's Time for LEGO Watches

    ENFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 1999--"Is that a LEGO watch?"
"Does it really tell time?" Kids and adults discovered the answers to these
questions at F.A.O. Schwarz today at the official launch of the LEGO Watch
Systems range.

The LEGO Company celebrated its latest introduction by unveiling the
World's Largest LEGO Watch and hosting special workshops and contests for
hundreds of New York LEGO Maniacs.

F.A.O. Schwarz is the first to carry the LEGO Watch Systems range.
Children
and adults have been "watching" for the latest new product offering from the
LEGO Company since the watches were showcased at the annual Toy Fair in New
York
earlier this year.

The watches embody the well-loved and respected LEGO concepts of
creativity, fun and quality. The interchangeable links and bezels are used to
create a customized watch in multiple colors and designs that appeal to boys,
girls, men and women.

The LEGO Watch Systems range consists of six different watches ranging in
price from $29.99 - $44.99. The watches can be combined to build a unique
creation each and every day. They are functional watches that really tell time.
The assortment consists of analog and digital watches that feature numerous
functions in addition to the creative play they offer.

--The Time Cruiser watch (Starter $29.99, Master $39.99, Plus Pack $12.99)
shouts classic LEGO fun with its primary red, yellow, blue and green colors.
The
links can be combined in a variety of creative ways. A Master and Plus Pack are
available and include additional bands and decorative face trims.

--Hold on to your hat! The Cyclone watch (Starter $29.99, Master $39.99,
Plus Pack $12.99) will blow you away with its fun neon links combined with a
black dial and neon green tachymeter. A Master and Plus Pack are available and
include additional bands and straps, as well as additional links and decorative
face trims.

--The Star Gazer watch ($39.99) helps you to identify the real LEGO star
in
the sky. This functional watch comes with blue, grey, black and neon yellow
links, as well as a constellation map and magnifying glass that attaches to the
black dial with neon yellow hour and minute hands.

--On the softer side...try the Paradisa watch (Starter $29.99, Master
$39.99). This fun timepiece comes with turquoise, pink and two shades of blue
links, and has a turquoise and white face, as well as a blue fastening ring.
The
Master Paradisa comes with additional links, straps and fun decorative
fastening
rings.

--Count down to the new Millennium with the Quasar watch ($44.99) from
LEGO
Lifestyle. This futuristic watch tells time digitally and comes with red, grey
and black links, as well as a cool "Throwbot" bezel that can be integrated with
the popular LEGO TECHNIC(R) toy. The watch face has functional buttons,
including a luminescent feature. When the button is pressed, a back-lit graphic
of the LEGO TECHNIC figure appears. Other features include state-of-the-art dot
matrix technology with some really cool graphics, automatic power-down at night
and much more!

--Like the Quasar, the Dee 2 ($29.99) is a digital watch. It comes with
turquoise, purple and black links, the same color decorative fastening rings
that go around the blue and grey face with silver functional buttons.

"We're very excited about the new LEGO Watch Systems range," says Nadine
Corrigan, Director of LEGO Lifestyle, the division of the LEGO Group that
develops new business areas and licenses. "The LEGO watches are a unique
extension of the LEGO brand, and like LEGO toys, encourage creativity and
inspire imagination. The LEGO watches are fun, functional, fashionable
timepieces for both the young and the young at heart," Corrigan continues.

Beginning in October, the six LEGO watch styles can be purchased at
participating retailers, including F.A.O. Schwarz, JC Penney direct mail
catalog, Zany Brainy, Noodle Kidoodle, Watch Station, Watch World,
Bloomingdale's holiday catalog, Learning Express, eToys and LEGO Shop-at-Home
(800-453-4652).

NOTE: Images of LEGO watches are available upon request.
