The piece I'm referring to appears in 4558 Metroliner - it's the black
umm... "electrical connector" thingies that attach to the roof of the train
itself.  (Nothing to do with the headlights!)  What I'd like to know is if
those pieces are available in other sets?  Thanks!

Are you talking about the piece that has a 2 or 3 finger hinge connector
at both ends but is a straight cylindrical part, (very common) or the
piece that connects to IT which only has one and is two rods with the
ends bent down.

if the latter, that is a pantgraph shoe. See this page:
http://my.voyager.net/lar/gloss.html particularly the terms Catenary,
Pantograph, Power Pickup and Trolley Pole.

In addition to 4551, not the greatest of sources since it will run you
over 50 a part if you gave the rest of the parts away, there also is a
copy in some ResQ set made last year although the exact one escapes
me... It's used as a light bar there. Either that or some other set of
recent vintage that is escaping me.

(...) It's also in the Flame Fighters fire station set, as a light bar on the small fire chiefs car, though that's no cheaper than 4551! Kevin (25 years ago, 5-Oct-99, to lugnet.general)
