The Ninja stuff is clearly influenced in part by Nagoya Castle, which
has decorative elements which are dolphins, even though they are scaled.

The photograph of the right is the donjon of The Nagoya castle.
The original Nagoya Castle, surmounted by its resplendent golden
dolphins, was burned to
ashes.
The golden dolphins (fabulous dolphin-like fish) called "shachihoko".
More than ten years
later, in 1959, the main donjon, the small donjon, the abutments of a
bridge, and the main
gate were reconstructed.
