Earlier in the year I was invited to Billund to meet the creative director
of the Designer (and other) product lines to hear about an idea he had for a
website.

The idea was simple: X-Pods are great for taking LEGO with you wherever you
go, so encourage people to take them on their travels and to photograph them
to show where they have been and what they built.

You may have seen similar sites for iPods (e.g.
http://gallery.ipodlounge.com/index.php?cat=46) and this is probably where
the idea originated, but in this case there's the additional element of
creativity, which might be inspired by the location you are at. For example,
building a plane at an airport or a fish by the sea.

So, I therefore present to you X-Pod World at http://www.x-podworld.com
which I hope will encourage you to get those pods and cameras out and get
building and photographing.

The paint on the site is still wet and, while I have been testing it over
the last few days, you may encounter the odd spelling mistake or bug, and I
encourage you to send me any comments or suggestions.

Phase 2 of the project will be to introduce maps to allow you to pinpoint
where in the world the photo was taken and to browse the gallery
geographically, a bit like the Lomography world browser at
http://www.lomography.com/worldbrowser/ but almost certainly not as
sophisticated. (Ideas welcome...)

(...) Great idea! And a nice easy-to-use site to match. I will be interested to see where pictures get taken. Best regards, Allan B. (20 years ago, 23-Oct-04, to lugnet.general)

(...) Excellent idea! It will be very interesting to see where the X-Pods go, like an X-Pods guide to the galaxy :-) A travelling X-Pod can certainly provide more action and variation to the image than an i-pod can. Olof (20 years ago, 24-Oct-04, to lugnet.general)
