Has anyone else noticed this? It seems newer 1x6 & 1x8 bricks have a different

The older brick on the left has holes in the bottom studs, but more importantly,
the flanges on studs 2 & 4 don't go all the way to the bottom of the brick. The
newer brick, on the right, has no holes and the flanges go right to the bottom.

Snip

I believe that the one on the left is a newer mold (entailing a slight saving in
material used) and the one on the right matches my bricks dating back to the mid
'70s, so it's at least that old. I don't know when they introduced the new mold,
but it would appear that they have been using both molds simultaneously for some
time, as most sets I have parted out in the past few years contain some of each.
But, I haven't bought late 2003, 2004 sets to see if the old mold is still being
used.

Peace and details,

Professor Whateverly
