Has anyone else noticed this? It seems newer 1x6 & 1x8 bricks have a different
mold. See this comparison:

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/RoscoHead/bricklink/bottom.jpg

The older brick on the left has holes in the bottom studs, but more importantly,
the flanges on studs 2 & 4 don't go all the way to the bottom of the brick. The
newer brick, on the right, has no holes and the flanges go right to the bottom.

This may not seem like a huge difference, but what it means is I can no longer
attach these bricks to one of these:

http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/search.cgi?q=4274

by those 2 studs, because the flanges don't allow the rim of the pin's stud to
go up inside the brick.

THIS IS BAD!!!!! And though I know most probably don't care, I use this
technique for connection often!

So far, I've only seen it in newer 1x6 & 1x8s, but who knows how far it will
infiltrate in future?

Does LEGO Direct have any comments, or able to shed a light on why this
incompatibility has been introduced?

ROSCO

(...) I did a little check on my 1xn bricks and saw this "problem" on all types and colours, from 1x2 to 1x8. In my opinion, there are two or more moulds, each with a little difference, and they change them every now and then. (For cleaning and (...) OH BOY Rosco you just NOW looked at the bottom? You know, Clark has been tracking this for AGES... The "new" brick looks to be just molded in an older mold, as they seems to vary from set to set for me, sometimes I get the ones with the holes in the (...) (...) The 1x4 whites in Tantative IV (if I remember correctly, I built it 10 days ago) are of both types. It got my attention since I never saw two versions of the same piece in the same Lego set. Maybe they just intorduced a new mold, and also (...) (21 years ago, 5-Apr-04, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)

(...) Snip I believe that the one on the left is a newer mold (entailing a slight saving in material used) and the one on the right matches my bricks dating back to the mid '70s, so it's at least that old. I don't know when they introduced the new (...) (21 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)
