Hi,

I'm not sure if this has been noted before, but tonight I discovered something
about the Wing 8 x 4 piece.  I was stacking some of them together, only to
discover that SOME will fit directly together, whereas others don't!  I looked
closely at the bottom (socket) side of the wings that fit and noticed that one
edge has a slightly rounded spot that allows it to accept a stud.

Here's a picture with the edge I'm talking about circled:

The left piece has a straight edge.  It will not accept a stud whatsoever.  The
right piece is rounded in that particular spot so it can accept a stud.

I think the early wings (from classic space) are not stackable, whereas the more
recent molds are stackable.  Can someone else confirm this?

-Bryan

(...) Yes, I noticed this about 10 years ago, when comparing my early-mid 80's sets with some of the newer wings. I'm figuring there was a mold upgrade to allow a builder to put the wing right out to the edge of a brick. -Scott Lyttle (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.general)

(...) Yup. Bricklink makes a distinction and has a clear picture: (URL) (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.general)
