When did "extra's" start?

Hi,

I just opened a MISB 6952 (1985), and had a great time building it. But I
was a little surpriced to find, that there was absolutely no extra bricks in
this set, not even 1x1 round plates.
So, does anybody know, when TLC started to put extra bricks in the boxes?

I remember that there used to always be extras of the 1X1 round plates; especially when the set used an odd number of them. Way back in The Day, the 1X1 round plates came in pairs on a sprue, so a set always had an even number of them. For (...) (21 years ago, 6-May-03, to lugnet.general)
