I don't tend to get too expressively poetic about these things, but I have
always liked the approach that I have seen in some police and fire services
to wear a black band on their badge to denote mourning.

I know its understated and some folks won't get it, but that seems to me to
be just fine.
I actually did this within the 24 hours, but had not encountered the thread
until now. Nice idea to think of this more broadly.
