Hmm. Saw that Lego just makes 2 robotics sets now. The RIS and the Ultimate
Builders Set. That's tough news for us adults playing with Lego. :P And when
you looks at the technic front, it's dead. The only thing available is the
Lego Racers sets, which have too many custom parts that just look "good" (I
don't think so but let's say they look "designed") and can't be used for
anything else. To me, re-usable, enlessly combinable parts are what Lego's
about.

The Ultimate Builders Set has been around since 2001 and is a mere expansion to
the RIS.

You can't say Technic's dead based on the winter catalouge, Technic sets is
almost always announced in the summer. And the 8460 crane re-release from S@H
is one of the most Technic sets around with a lot of good parts.

There will be good times for the Technic folks this year, as previously
discussed here in general. I wont go into details since it's against Lugnet
Terms of Use.

You used to be able to buy some useful Star Wars sets with good parts for
technic/robots but that's all over now. Maybe the people rather buys a
jaggedy Yoda sculpture or a tiny tie fighter.

Personally I have enough parts in the Technic genre for the moment and seeks
more and more standard pieces, believe it or not. And I think the StarWars line
has a lot of good pieces in different colors, but the license makes them
impossible to buy at full retail.

But then I looked at the first part of the catalog (ages 6+):P and found the
Designer Sets!

Page 24 in the Swedish version, I even remember that, drooled over the pages
a lot!

To me, these sets are pretty optimal: low price, an acceptable part count,
great value for kids, and the parts can be used again and again! They also
come in nice color combinations with an idea book each.

The 4099 is the closest thing to anything I'd want to buy from the new catalog.

I'm looking forward to 4101 personally :)
