I would love to see this set released!  I have all other town sets from • the
original 6300-6699 series and could never figure out why the particular • kit
in question wasn't released.

Does anyone out there have any information on set 6500?

I have the 1996 retailers catalogue that the picture came from, but have no
further information. Perhaps it was canned because by the time it was due
for release, perhaps later in 1996, LEGO had already committed to going
'junior' the next year.

Would'n that imply that the "junior" move was done in a momentary impulse,
rather than a well thought strategy? I mean, I do understand that junior was
a *bad* outcome, but I have always believed it was at least developed for
some time!

And, let's face it, the set is not very exciting to
a 7-10 year old compared to other sets that were available at that time,
such as the Town space shuttles &c.

True, but it is still way better than the subsequent junior sets! :-)
Although it is a little "scarcely populated" model, the set has plenty of
room for improvement (building another store in the "garden" plate, for
instance)
I for one would like that set to be "re-issued", maybe not as a legend but
in the same way the OCTAN station was. Not that there are no other sets I
want re-issued as well, only this one has a unique story attached to it...
