At BrickFest this weekend, I had the good fortune to get together with a
group of about 10-15 people to discuss Building Instruction techniques, the
BI Portal site, and other BI topics. It was a great session, and my mind has
been racing on BI thoughts since.
One of the questions I get asked a lot about the BI Portal site is: "What
constitutes a Building Instruction?"
After much thought, and for the purposes of the BI Portal site, I think that
a BI means:
Any form of communication that allows one person to share a LEGO related
idea with another.
For the format, this means that any .ldr/.dat/.mpd, PDF, photos, textual
description, and so on.
For the content, this means any full creation instruction, an individual
building technique, design study, and so on. It can be free or for sale.
In the coming days (post-BrickFest recovery), I will be updating the site to
allow users to select several additional building instruction type and
payment method tagging. This should help the BI Portal to continue to grow
into a terrific resource!
And on a similar note, stay tuned for some (more) new features. Our BI
roundtable came up with a bunch of good ideas! If you have others you would
like to send me, please drop me an email!
