There are at *least* two basic piece libraries:
Anton Raves:
  http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Anton_Raves/
Paul Gyugyi (converted by Filip Spacek):
  http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Park/6522/

But I personally prefer using an LDraw to POV converter:
Lutz Uhlmann's L2P:
  http://titan.informatik.uni-bonn.de/%7Euhlmann/files.html
Converts LDraw dat files to POV using a library of pre-made parts.

Lars C. Hassing's L3P:
  http://www.netby.net/Nord/Mandelvej/Hassing/l3p.html
Converts LDraw dat files to POV using on-the-fly translation of LDraw parts
into a POV format.
