Hi everyone,

Sorry if this message is in the wrong group, but I guess this may be of
interest not just to Bricklink.com buyers and sellers, but also to
LDraw/MLCad modellers and pretty much any AFOL with a largish LEGO
collection.

The reason for this message is that I am almost finished development of a
computer application which I have called BrikTrak 2002 and I have decided to
release this for BETA testing to the larger AFOL community.

BrikTrak is actually a ground up re-development of a tool I developed over a
year ago for my own purposes. Like many of you, I spend way too much money
on LEGO sets at clearance prices. The only trouble with doing this is I can
only use approx 30% of the pieces I get in the sets (I tend to do larger
scultures and artwork pieces rather than minifig scale so only really need
bricks and plates etc), so I sell the pieces I can't use on my Bricklink.com
store.
Well, using just online tools wasn't as fast as I needed for such a large
inventory, so I decided to develop an offline stock administration
application that gave me pretty much all the information in needed at my
fingertips.

I don't want to go into too much detail in this post about what it does, but
if you go to the BrikTrak website at http://www.briktrak.com you will see
screenshots, feature overviews and more.

It is much more than just for Bricklink.com stores - MLCad modellers may
find it useful as it can take a .dat model and work out not just the piece
inventory, but the average selling price of each piece if you need to
actually buy some of the pieces.

Now, the beta release won't be out until July 12th, but I am wanting to get
as many people as possible involved ahead of time. I have created a forums
area on the BrikTrak.com website for all feedback, tips, communication and
pretty much everything to do with the application and so I am inviting
anyone who is interested to take a look at the site, read the feature
overview and view the screenshots, sign up for the beta program and pretty
much lets start the communication going in the forums area. Tell me what you
think so far, what you would like to see or whatever else you may want
BrikTrak to be.

The application is going to be free or donationware - I don't intend making
money from it. It has been very useful to me, helping me manage my
Bricklink.com inventory over the last few months, and if even only one other
person finds it useful, then I will be happy.

That URL again is http://www.briktrak.com

Many thanks,
Richard (Britdog)

(...) That looks *awesome*. I can't wait! One question though. Will the program be able to detirmine if a part in a specified color is avalible in that specific color (if LEGO actually made that part in that color)? Looks great, --Kai (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.general)
