I think one of the factors of this is that when SW sets came out, it was the
first sets that AFOL's would want to buy multiple copies of. Overall, they
are good sets, with a lot of different, useful parts, and great minifigs
that fit into almost any theme. I think you are seeing this in the stats. I
would love to buyh another 10 A-Wings, or another 5 Snowspeeders, maybe some
more X-Wings, or some more Flash Speeders, since the part selection is great.
Now, if I had access to the funds I have now back say in 1988 or so, I would
have a lot more sets of yesteryear, because of the great parts, etc. I
certainly would have a lot more of the 6703, the Futuron / Blacktron 1
minifig pack than the saultry 1 I do have.

So I think you are seeing a newer trend in set buying, mostly for parts,
where as, at least in my case, I was limited to buying sets and stuff from
my allowance, birthday money, etc.
