I assume they mean Building blocks as opposed to clothes, watches ,bionicle
(only joking on the last one :) ).
Although we may argue the lack of traditional blocks in modern lines - town
jr, Harry Potter or Alpha Team - , they are still essentially traditional
LEGO construction sets containing building blocks (albeit specialist ones).
At least in the FT's and LEGO's eyes, even if not in ours :)
I can't see they meant the upturn in profits was due to Freestyle boxes and
bulk bricks.
