Kevin,

I'm really sorry to hear about your job situation.  I hope you find a new
position soon.

As to ads, please consider banners rather than popups--those can be so
annoying.  But banners don't bother me.

I'd also be happy to pay a user fee for posting pictures.  Some amount,
either per year or per lifetime, seems very sensible.  I'd suggest it stay
totally free under a certain memory limit, and then paying gallery-owners
can post much more.  That way it would be totally accessible to the kid who
just got access to a digital camera and is excited about posting pictures of
their new MOCs, but it would still be reasonable for those AFOLs who want to
create huge creations and take pictures of every angle to pay.  Let's face
it, if you can afford to buy the 1000's of bricks to make some of these
MOCs, you can afford to pay $20 a year or whatever to host your pictures.

I hope you get the permission to post the instruction scans.  As others
said, it seems like the folks at Lego have a favorable view of your site, so
it shouldn't be a big issue.  If not, can these be given to some other site
to host?

Someone asked if there are other sites that host instruction scans.  There is:
http://www.hccamsterdam.nl/brick/
I don't know if this has more or less than Brickshelf.  I know there have
been times when I couldn't find instructions on one of these sites and it
was on the other.

Bruce

(...) As someone who has experimented with banners on some of my sites, they don't pay well. On a small scale it's virtually impossible to find anyone who will pay per-click; they have to have an actual sale result from the click. This reduces (...) (23 years ago, 22-Feb-02, to lugnet.general)
