Part of what I most fondly remember about Xmas past was getting LEGO sets
under the tree.  Why should this year be any different?

I was lucky enough to win a recent eBay auction of an Expert Builder -
Universal Building set:

Imagine my surprise when the mailman delivered the package on Sunday, two
days before Xmas.  I'm not sure who else has ever received a package from
Canada Post on a Sunday, but suffice to say, I was shocked.

Beyond just receiving this set on a Sunday, imagine my delight in finding
that this set (though over 17 years old) was in nearly mint condition. • All
it needs is some shrink wrap and a price tag and you could pop this box • back
on a store shelf.

my god  you're lucky.

Thanks.  Lucky is the word I would use to describe it too.  I knew the set
was in 'good condition' from the eBay description, but I describe it as much
better than that just due to the condition of the pieces.  You know that
nice light gloss that a new plate has?  One that has never had pieces
attached to it, or scratched against it?  Well, that's the condition of
these pieces.  Plus... no smell, almost mint condition instructions, and
even the thin plastic cover that goes over the insert tray.

Best of all, I only paid $12.56 for it.

So even at today's prices, that's about 9 cents a piece (U.S. $).  Cheaper
than buying it in a store even if it was available!

But believe it or not... I actually found an almost better deal once.  It
was about 2 1/2 years ago, in a used toy shop here in town.  It was another
Expert Builder set:

Also mint (pieces unscratched, unplayed with), perfect condition box, but
missing only the instructions.  Oh well, it was only $6 (U.S.)  Which makes
it around 2 cents a piece. :)

All the best,
Allan B.
