The lesser, but still good
creations just get buried in the flood.  I can see how a newbie who
doesn't have quite the same experience building or who hasn't gotten the
chance to learn from others could be discouraged by lack of response to
his/her budding efforts.

Yes, you hit it dead on with those comments.  There are many builders
(myself included) who simply have yet to learn all they can from other
people's experience (some because of being younger or newer in the group,
others because they haven't had time to look at all the MOCs and websites).
When these members post something, it might seem like 'old hat' to the others.

Still, I have seen much encouragement for these less experienced builders.
E.g., when I posted a link to my webpage and MOCs, I had a number of
compliments and suggestions.  The community sensed my inexperience
(perhaps), but rather than saying "We've seen it before", they hinted at,
"Good job so far, give us more."  And even though my MOCs are nothing
compared to some of the true art out there, some members (specifically for
my Castle MOCs) still saw a few details in style that were new to them.

My point is, if you are a newbie, post your stuff anyway.  It *will* be
appreciated.  And I hope the rest of us will continue to encourage such by
taking the moment to say, "I like the way you used element X" or "That was
an amazing Y".  The really good responses will go the extra step and point
the inexperienced toward things to ponder... "X and Y were original ideas,
and you might get further inspiration combining them with the concepts used
by Jane Doe's model here..."

I'm babbling again...  I hope you don't mind...  :)

As for the Cross-Post issue (earlier in this thread), I must admit I was
guilty of that myself not so long ago... When I posted the aforementioned
website and MOCs in fact.  I too apologize and will try to cut back on that
in the future...  After much consideration, I agree that the
compartmentalization (sp?) is a *good* thing here...

(...) Unfortunately, I think this applies to MOCs too. We're so used to seeing amazing MOCs from people that it gets harder and harder to impress us. (Maybe I should speak for myself...) There are so many great, ultra-detailed MOCs out there that (...) (23 years ago, 2-Nov-01, to lugnet.general)
