Well I finally plucked up courage to ask something I'd been meaning to ask
for a while...

I was visiting my father this weekend and I'd previously had some good luck
on getting old sets from a nearby toyshop, last time I asked them to have a
look in their stockroom for any pirate sets and got quite a good haul and
thought I'd cleared them out - this time I went in and noticed that they had
a 6075 (Wolfpack Tower) on the shelves and asked them - 'Do you have any
more old castle sets in the stockroom...' (Having just had new interest in
collecting castle stuff)... They said they'd have a look and then I asked
the critical question...

'Do you mind if I have a look in your stockroom as I know what sets are
older than the current ones?' (Hey - I didn't want to end up with a pile of
Knight's Kingdom stuff...)

So I was led down the steps (told to mind my head on the low ceiling)
and into a stockroom. The lego shelf seemed fairly bare, I just saw a few
small, current sets but did manage to fish out 4 6246's (Crocodile Cage).

Then, as I looked to the left of the main shelf with lego on I saw...

6076 (Dark Dragon's Den) - more Burps, great... But a cool spiral
staircase :)
    6273 (Port Jamaica - woohoo!!!)

    and...

    6988 (Alpha Centauri Outpost)

Everything was a bit of a haze after that, I was too gobsmacked to even
ask for a discount due to the 6988 having a battered box, so I ended up
paying normal selling price for them (but still cheaper than E-Bay).

So, get friendly with local toy dealers and ask to see their
stockrooms - you don't know what gems may be in there :)

I got my first 6277 from a shop where it was about a tenner off msrp a couple of years ago, but these places (...) (23 years ago, 6-Aug-01, to lugnet.general)
