    D.C. Metrorail Car —Kevin Loch
I have finished my D.C. Metrorail car. It's a bit long for use on LEGO curve geometry but it is a realistic length. I think the actual cars are 75 feet long. (URL) (23 years ago, 21-Jul-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

(...) It's as long as angel hair pasta, but very well done. It reminds me of the Flexiliner (with the big rubber bumper/diaphram in front.-Harvey (23 years ago, 21-Jul-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

I was just browsing though what happened last month and found this. Cool stuff. I have been looking at these (URL) Denmark and Sweden, but found them to be hard to build. Appearently not, looks like the same. How about building such one? Sonnich (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

(...) Very nice, I like the subtle angles on the side walls. Question though, how is it for strength? Building the entire car 'snot', I'm wondering how it keeps from collapsing or sagging in the middle? Too bad it wouldn't fit through the GMLTC (...)       (...) Having built a engine SNOT, it can be made to work OK. I haven't yet looked at the car, but it should be strong enough...         Re: D.C. Metrorail Car —Thomas Main
(...) Kevin, Does the real metro rest that high on its trucks or are they inset more into the frame of the car? I think this model would be very cute if it were "Legoized" and made half as long...realism is one thing, play value and practicality (...)       I'm not Kevin, but I've certainly ridden the metro enough to answer :) The real Metro does sit very high on the trucks - it's not very noticable when you're on the platform. If you're in a station like metro center, where both tracks are in the (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

Re: D.C. Metrorail Car —Richard W. Schamus
It is a very nice job. In my traveling around D.C. on a nearly daily basis (not on the metro, but around it in my car) you can see how close it is to the rreal thing. What would be nice is if it could be modified to be put on a monorail base which (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

(...) Wow! where were those pics when I was building the model? I can see that I need to make some changes to the doors. The pics I was working from all had the doors open so I had to guess. KL (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

Yes, I would love to try it on the amfleet cars, which have a pronounced curvature. There are two problems, 1x4 gray hinge plates are fairly rare and you can't use the wide roof with regular bricks. I used brown 1x2 log bricks to get the clearance (...)
