Ben,
These were also available in the UK between 1966 and 1968, as a pack of
bricks, or a 'Pull Toy' set. They were called "jumbo sized Lego bricks" for
ages 6 months to 4 years, and pre-date Duplo.
If anyone is especially interested, I can send them a scan.
