One of wamalug's members had these too, in both red and white i think.
I think she got them at a yard sale, but none of us knew/know what they are.

| I had never seen these before until now. Can anyone tell me what these are? An early Duplo perhaps? They are larger than today's Duplos though. (URL) put the grey 2x4 in for size reference. The person that gave them to me says he's had them for (...) (23 years ago, 27-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)
