Hello Nick..
Some email servers don't do their jobs every second of every day. There are
a few reasons for this (one of which has to do with how many messages per
hour are sent to that server), but ever since email authentication was
installed I've always gotten my messages within 10 or 15 seconds, usually
within 5. But I also am on Yahoo, a somewhat busy system of servers.
Also many ISP's have servers that go down or interruptions in service and
don't have to tell you about it.
