It must be different in the States. I have a copy of the Lego UK retailers
price list and even with all the additional discounts, it's impossible to
remain competitive with TRU, Argos etc once you add more than 30% to your
cost price. It sounds as if US retailers are able to buy far cheaper than
UK retailers can (nothing new in that of course).

This would be impossible to police. For instance what's to stop a member
buying tons of stuff through the "club" and passing it on to their
(non-member) mate to sell elsewhere ie. car boot, discount club, etc.

Not if they don't know about it. i.e. how many threads have you seen
discussing purchases made on ebay of sets that are available cheaper from
S@H.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the idea. I'm just playing devil's advocate
on this occasion. :)

| (...) Yeah, yeah, sure... I'll betcha you and Todd just cooked up this whole thing together just to get me all riled up and see how much of a fuss I'll make, right? ;) Seriously though, I was never thinking that TLG would have to police anything. (...) (26 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)
