I guarantee the people that these are selling to are Star Wars toy collectors
who know very little about the LEGO market. The SW toy sites are incredibly
detailed in their reports on Hasbro's movement on figures, vehicles and bases,
but none of them really cover LEGO to the same degree (even the best site, From
Bricks to Bothans, doesn't have the same level of coverage).
Because of this, SW collectors are kind of crippled when it comes to the LEGO
sets. All they know is that they are seeing them on eBay, and not on the
shelves of their store, they want to be complete, but they don't know how many
cases of what sets are going to be shipped, or what set is short packed or when
the cases might ship from the factory to warehouses so they BUY BUY BUY as soon
as they see it available. Given that some Star Wars figs are nearly impossible
to find on the shelves for their entire production life, it's not necessarily
an unfathomable reaction.
On the other hand, caveat emptor. Anyone buying in a secondhand market needs
to learm to really research the value of anything before they buy it, or
they're going to get horribly burned at some point. If they don't have common
sense enough to follow this rather obvious thought, or if they are just too
lazy to do the work, then more power to the auctioneer.

| I buy and sell on ebay (mostly buy)~ The ONLY things I buy on ebay are old sets that I cannot get anywhere else, or lots of parts from big sets (that you would have to get 8 $70 sets from). I am selling a few of the shell promo sets on ebay - I put (...) (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.general)
