Hey everyone,

I'm going to pick up the new Studios set but before I blow that $180, I wanted
to know if anyone else has it and could answer some questions.

1. What output is the movie in? Is it a proprietary format, or can you output
it to be a .mpeg or .avi file?  If so, what resolution/size can you run
it/create it at?

The camera uses standard windows drivers. You can use premiere to grab stuff
if you want (and if the software that comes with it doesn't like you (or the
other way around, whatever)
BTW : for that price, I'd say that there is 50 for the cam, 80 for the
software (that could include a dumbed down version of premiere or similar
software - Lego branded, and the rest for the 4 bricks an the bottom of the box)

2. What format are the sound input files? Can you use .wav or .mpg files?

anything that your windows video stuff would has (best guess .avi)

3. What format are the music input files?

uh, see above, probably wav, mp3, whatever

4. What are some of the special effects (not transitions).  Can you edit frame
by frame to create, say, an explosion or a laser bolt?

see above...

5. How much does the camera weigh? Could it be mounted on a Lego crane to do
pan/zoom or helicopter style shots?

about 2/3 oz (at most). it has a 15 feet cable (in fact, is seems to be some
sort of branded version of the quickcam color USB, just like the "vision
command" one.)

That's it.  My home computer is down right now or I would have made an impulse
buy by now.  But now that I have time to think about it, I wanted to see if it
was an open architecture . . . i.e. supported different input and output
formats.

some people are already trying to get the beast to work on Linux.
Have fun

Thanks in advance,
Jason

happy hacking
