(...) That's just a decision based on availability, not on the sets' merits. Personally, I'd take the 8480, because it's such an ingenious and beautiful model. More funky general-purpose parts too. 8880's just a big car. (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

Since I have both, I would say that the 8480 is better part-wise. Many more gears than the 8880, and the 8480 also has 2 motors. HOWEVER, if you have the choice right now, get the 8880 ... the supplies are dwindling fast (especially for an unopened (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)
