  Re: New Poll

(...) I did too :) You are only supposed to vote for one option, one time. Someone from 207.172.11.233 doesn't understand that so their many votes were deleted and they can't vote anymore :( I guess I am going to have to write an ip address buffer (...)   Re: New Poll

(...) That may have been me -- I'm getting a 403 error there now. It didn't say anywhere that the user was expected to cast only one vote, and it didn't try to throw away duplicates if I clicked different options or hit reload a few times. How about (...)   Re: New Poll

(...) You mean it recorded additional votes by hitting reload (without exiting browser or clearing cache)? It shouldn't do that. It doesn't let you vote if you don't get a ballot cookie from the home page (therefore cookies are working), and When (...) (24 years ago, 18-Sep-00, to lugnet.general)

  Re: New Poll

(...) Ya. I think I just hit the Reload button and it reposted the form. (...) At some point I turned off new cookies. It might have been after the entry page, or it might have had the old cookie from earlier. Hmm, weird. Something else I just (...) (24 years ago, 18-Sep-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

That might cut down a bit on accidents. (...) (24 years ago, 18-Sep-00, to lugnet.publish)

  Re: New Poll

(...) Yea, I noticed Netscape at least does this. I think MSIE does also. It's pretty stupid. Sure, you may have to re-interpret the HTML to do the resize, but there is no good reason to do a re-load. It makes some web sites incredibly painful, get (...)   Re: New Poll

(...) I've noticed that in plenty of Netscape versions, but I can't say I've ever seen it in MSIE. -Adam 8^D (24 years ago, 19-Sep-00, to lugnet.publish)

  Re: New Poll

(...) Google (...) Yes, Netscape does think resize == reload which is stupid. However, that is not what the problem was here. Hitting reload does not normally register additional votes. Todd stopped accepting cookies at just the right time and that (...) (24 years ago, 19-Sep-00, to lugnet.publish)

  Re: New Poll

(...) OTOH, what I tried out was probably not something that most people would figure to give a try, so it may not end up being a real issue. If you ask people not to vote more than once (like explicitly state that, and make that a condition of (...) (24 years ago, 19-Sep-00, to lugnet.publish)

(...) I did something like that. It checks for frequent occurrances of IP and UA, and separately checks frequent occurances of IP regardless of UA. It also logs each successful vote so abuse patterns can be manually detected and the parameters (...) (24 years ago, 19-Sep-00, to lugnet.publish)
