I need help identifying a part that I got in a mixed ebay lot. I have two
8x8
black plates that are latticed in the middle except for a 2x2 in the center.
Can anyone tell me what sets these came from and what they were used for.

John already told you about the Pirates origins, but the black one is findable
in UFO sets (Cyber Saucer, the $10 one); dkgrey in a Sting Rays set; white in
6560 Diving Expedition Explorer and a couple of Exploriens sets.
6975 -Alien Avenger has this piece as well. M-Tron's Mega Core Magnetizer has 2
of them in red.
They're from all over!  I love them, they're very useful.

But what kinda stuff do you use 'em for - floors and ceilings?

I have used these pieces in Castle gatehouses for murderholes or
catwalks...I have seen MOCs that use them for doors, portcullis, and
stockade fencing...I will have to dig mine out and see what new uses I can
find for them ...

I am currently building a LARGE multi level space base based around this piece
as a walkway. If you are willing to trade the 8x8 lattices, please let me know.
I have quite a bit that  I can part with for them.
