Sounds like 'Modulex' bricks. Lego made them in the 1960's for use by
architects to build buildings. They're about 60% (best guess) the size of
standard Lego bricks. I've got maybe a dozen or so in different colors -
including several colors that aren't available in Lego or Duplo! (Maybe
someday? I hope so!)
Some of the studs might have "L" on them - there isn't enough room for "LEGO"!

| (...) I think you may be correct. On second look, some of the pieces have an M logo, not Lego, on each stud. Presume M = Modulex They are perhaps closer to 60% than 50% size too as you say. regards lawrence (25 years ago, 8-Feb-00, to lugnet.general)

| (...) Modulex came out in 1963, same year as LEGO small plates (1x1, 1x2, 2x2, 2x3, 2x4 only). Was there a correlation? Was the short lived Architectural LEGO line, also introducend in 1963 via sets #750, 751, 752, and hard plastic box parts packs (...) (25 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.general)
