For those of you who collect or have an interest in the old '50s and
'60s LEGO Esso Service signage and pumps, there are a few new items to
collect. My UK LEGO friend Phil Traviss (very knowledgeable about
UK/European LEGO!!!) mentioned to me a few weeks ago about the fact that
in the UK they developed a different set of gas pumps and Esso sign.
These are much different than the ones used in continental Europe and
USA/Canada. Also they had much different street lamps. Phil said that
originall they used the same ones as the rest of the countries, but when
the UK got their own production plant, they created unique UK only
styles. They even had their own UK street signs, and a UK Town Plan
Board (for left handed driving).
The 1965 UK catalog is on Brickshelf, and the UK
signs/pumps/streetlights can be seen here (bottom of scan):

Very interesting, to say the least! Thanks Phil!
