I believe I have seen this posed before and it was confirmed to be the same setup as that on the Super Car 8880. It allows a shifting mechanism to engage one of four positions at a time. It uses a gear with teeth on the outside but allows a rod (...) (26 years ago, 11-Dec-98, to lugnet.general)
