This would explain the dreamlike quality of visiting "The Cube" at the MIT
Media Lab.  Those AFOLs who were at MindFest Friday night just sort of walked
around the room slack-jawed, peering into bins much like those you described
(probably a bit smaller, though).  In Suzanne Rich's office was a bin full of
clear 2x2 tiles!  It was truly a test of character for us to walk out without
filching any :-)

I'm familiar with the test of character part - if not in relation to MIT - the
'build a castle' place at LLC had bins of mixed parts - among which were
*lots* of dark grey macaroni bricks and black extreme slope corners.  It was
literally an effort of will to just leave them sitting there, especially early
on a overcast Thursday with no one in sight.

<sigh>
